SIP Program: CECs + DIY Cleaning & Care w/ the MPCA

  • Water Bar & Public Studio 2516 Central Avenue Northeast Minneapolis, MN, 55418 United States (map)

Are you ready for some acronyms? Contaminants of Emerging Concern (CECs) are increasingly being detected at low levels in surface water, and these compounds may have an impact on aquatic life as well as human health. Of particular concern are chemicals that originate in Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products (PCPPs).

In this happy hour workshop with environmental scientists and educators Katrina Kessler and Summer Streets from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), we'll learn about CECs, PCPPs, and the role of agencies like the MPCA. We'll also learn how to reduce our chemical footprint using Do-it-yourself (DIY) household cleaners and personal care products made from simple, non-toxic ingredients.

We'll have samples and recipes on hand to help you make affordable, non-toxic household cleaners and other personal products. Bring your own recipes and tips to share, or your questions about how the chemicals we use in our homes and bodies become part of our environment, and what we can do (individually and collectively) to have a positive impact.

All SIP Programs are free and open to our SIP Fund supporters. Get a sneak peek at the kinds of art, culture, and environment programs that will be part of the new Water Bar & Public Studio before our doors open to the public. To attend, donate any amount to the SIP Fund (your name and email will be added to our contact list) or make a donation at the door. Funding supports the continued development of this project and space.
