Open Source Forms is a movement class or “practice” - guided by the philosophy that the source of all creativity and wisdom is available in each of us. Open Source Forms offers methods to access the depth, specificity, courage, and freedom in your movement and performance.
This series of classes at Water Bar is a great way for all kinds of movers to develop different approaches for movement and performance, and for anyone interested in making new and refreshing connections with movement, in their body and with others.
BACKGROUND OF OPEN SOURCE FORMS:
Open Source Forms has grown fluidly out of Skinner Releasing Technique, an innovative approach to dance and movement training developed by Joan Skinner in the early 1960s. And just like Skinner Release Technique, it utilizes image-guided floor work to ease tension and promote an effortless kind of moving, integrated with alignment of the whole self.
Joan Skinner’s long-time student and Skinner Release Technique teacher Stephanie Skura developed Open Source Forms to further her expanded practice. This work focuses on cross-fertilizations and deep commonalities springing from Skinner Releasing Technique and creative process.
